Introducing Sir Idris Elba

A knighthood is one of the United Kingdom’s highest honours, awarded by His Majesty The King to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to society through public service, leadership, advocacy, or achievement in their field.

Each year, the New Year Honours List recognises people whose work has created meaningful impact across the UK and internationally — including through charitable, cultural, and community-led efforts that improve the lives of other.

We are immensely proud of our founder, Idris Elba, on the announcement of his knighthood in the New Year Honours List, awarded for services to young people.

Sir Idris Elba’s advocacy — including his leadership on anti-knife crime and youth safety — reflects a deep commitment to protecting young people and expanding opportunity. Since launching in 2018, Don’t Stop Your Future has worked to address youth violence through advocacy, community partnership, and policy change, while our Creative Futures pathways open access to skills, mentorship, and real opportunities in the creative industries.

This honour reflects the collective efforts of young people, grassroots partners, and community leaders driving change every day. Our work continues — grounded in collaboration, accountability, and impact.

“I receive this honour on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition, and resilience have driven the work of the Elba Hope Foundation. I hope we can do more to draw attention to the importance of sustained, practical support for young people and to the responsibility we all share to help them find an alternative to violence.”
